DFW Airport Service And City Connections

By Edna Booker

There are airport shuttles and then there are airport shuttles. When it comes to DFW Airport Service near Dallas, Texas, there are a number of options running throughout the airport. One of the newest features is that these airport shuttle buses now act as a connecting force between three different cities.

While most DFW shuttle buses run within boundaries of the complex, there are now connections to other areas by way of light rail. When it comes to Arlington, there is also limited bus service from one of shuttle stops.

While most shuttles operate within the complex, there are several which also serve the local rent-a-car center at which the train station is also located. As such, locals and tourists now use the light rail system and connections at the airport to travel between Dallas, Texas, also known as Big D and Fort Worth, also known as Cowtown. From the terminal rent-a-car stop, individuals can either take a train toward Big D or Cowtown, together often referred to as the metroplex.

While most hotels reside outside the DFW complex, there are two which operate in or near the terminals. The Grand Hyatt which is located inside a terminal, and the Hyatt Regency which sits just outside another. These are often the two most booked hotels in the area as each provide a different level of convenience.

There are basically two types of shuttles at DFW, there are the ground shuttle buses that operate on streets and travel to different terminals, then there are the Airtrans trains which run between terminals inside the security gates. One problem with the shuttle service is that buses do not run as early as some security gates open. As such, there may at times be a need to schedule a shuttle that can pick up and drop off passengers to other gates upon request.

Still, as there has never been any form of mass transit in the DFW metroplex, these new options have made it easier for locals and tourists to visit more attractions than in the past. While there is now a bus to and from Arlington, the schedule remains quite limited, especially for those wishing to attend games or visit amusement parks which operate well outside transit hours. For most, the best way to handle a trip to an event in Arlington using mass transit is to book a hotel for the night of the event, then travel back to the airport the following day.

Another nice feature of the DFW Grand Hyatt is the coffee bar, lounge and gourmet restaurant. All of which can be accessed by individuals with or without an airline ticket as along with the hotel. When it comes to baggage claim and meeting friends and relatives, all baggage claim areas of each gate are located next to elevators leading to either the parking garage, rent-a-car shuttles or shuttle buses.

All of these and other features make DFW one of the easiest airports to transverse in the world. Having opened in the mid-late 1970s as one of largest airports in the world, it still remains one of the biggest and best operated. Now, these new transit centers and connections have also made it one of the best transit centers in the area. As such, locals and tourists often finding taking these buses and trains faster and less expensive than having to acquire a rent-a-car, especially for business commutes, day trips or longer stays.
