Very Best Grand Canyon National Park Spring Break Helicopter Trips

By Jacky Archer

The Spring Break is fast approaching. Students and families all over America will be looking for something special to do between March and April. If you've been wanting to try something different, it is time to book a tour to the Grand Canyon. Helicopter flights depart from Vegas, but you'll have to book soon to make sure you don't miss out.

Vegas Helicopter Tours Of The Canyon

The helicopters that depart from Vegas fly to the West Rim. The West Rim is closest to Vegas, so that is where the tours head, and it only takes about 30 minutes to cover the 120 miles from Vegas to the Canyon by helicopter. However, if you want to tour the South Rim instead, you can take an airplane flight there from Vegas rather than a helicopter flight.

Helicopters fly over Lake Mead and Hoover Dam on the way out to the Canyon, after which your adventure will begin. There are flyover tours, as well as landing tours at the West Rim. Flyover tours allow for some epic sightseeing, but the landing tours are where the true adventures can be found.

The landing tours can let you out on top of the Canyon or on the floor near the Colorado River. One of the bottom landing tours is special because it comes with a fun Champagne picnic. You can even take a boat tour along the Colorado River when you take this tour.

Top Of The Rim Tours

The top of the rim has several interesting hiking trails and it is also where the Skywalk is located. The Skywalk is a huge bridge that hangs about 4000 feet above the bottom of the Canyon. The floor is transparent, and it extends beyond the edge of the rim for 70 feet. The view from the Skywalk is astounding, and it is an exciting experience you don't want to miss. Although they aren't as spectacular, you don't want to miss the views from Eagle and Guano Point, which are located on the walking trails.

The Helicopters

There are basic and deluxe tours available. Deluxe is the way to go, because you will fly in a state of the art EcoStar 130 helicopter. This helicopter has a spacious cabin, flies smoother than any other touring helicopter, and has large stadium style seats. Best of all, it has a huge panoramic viewing window, which will give you unobstructed views, 180 degrees around the front of the helicopter.

Another nice benefit of a deluxe tour is you are transported to and from your hotel in a limousine.

South Rim Tours

If you fly out to the South Rim, or if Arizona is more convenient than Las Vegas, you will have two different air-only tours to choose from. One is a 30-minute flight that goes to the North Rim and back. The second tour, which is the most popular, is 50 minutes, and includes the eastern areas of the National Park. The longer tour is quite comprehensive, and it allows you to see about 75 percent of the national park.

You won't be able to take a landing tour at the South Rim, but you can add on a Jeep tour that takes you on a ride through the park so you can see the main landmarks up close and personal.

To Conclude

I love the Grand Canyon. It's a beautiful and mysterious part of the country, which is rich in history. The sights are second to none, and with helicopters, you will have the best vantage point. For Spring Break, go with a deluxe package for the best experience. Landing tours at the West Rim will give you plenty of opportunity for adventure, and South Rim tours can be combined with Jeep tours to really round out the experience.

Don't forget to book your tour in advance. When you book early, you get a better deal. You can book your tour online and pay with your credit card to get instant confirmation of your seat reservations for a Spring Break adventure you'll always remember.
