Las Vegas Grand Canyon National Park Spring Break Plane Flights

By Belinda Shields

It's almost time for one of the most fun holidays of the year - Spring Break. With a little planning, you can choose a fun adventure that will pack your holiday with thrills and memories to last a lifetime. Vegas is the ideal Spring Break destination, and when you're there, you can take a side trip to the Grand Canyon and view its splendors from above on an airplane tour.

The Canyon's Two Rims

Some of the airplane tours from Las Vegas head to the West Rim. Touring the South Rim is an option, too, and all you have to do is fly to Tusayan in Arizona to begin the tour. It would take hours to drive to the South Rim from Vegas, but if you fly you can be there in about an hour.

The South Rim is known for being less crowded than the West Rim, so if you want to enjoy the scenic beauty in relative peace and quiet, then this is the place to go. When you choose an airplane tour, the complete package can include a bus tour through the National Park. The bus tour is two and a half hours long, and will take you to all of the best sites inside the park. The whole tour package is almost 10 hours in total, including the pickup and drop off back to your hotel. As well as the scheduled tour, you will be able to explore the tourist village, where you can grab a bite to eat or pick up some authentic Grand Canyon souvenirs.

If that's not enough fun and excitement, you can upgrade the tour further to include a helicopter flight over the rim. You can book a flight that goes to the North Rim and back. If you want something even longer, then there's a 50-minute tour that also goes out to the eastern boundary of the park. This is the most comprehensive helicopter tour available at the Canyon, and it allows you to see over 75% of the National Park grounds. It includes a flyover of the Dragoon Corridor, which is famous for being the deepest and widest part of the Canyon.

If you'd rather take a tour that's closer to Vegas, then the West Rim is a better choice. It only takes about 30 minutes to fly there from Vegas instead of an hour.

Touring The West Rim

The airplane tour to the West Rim allows you about 2.5 hours to explore the trails and scenic lookout points on foot. There are many hiking trails, so you'll find something that matches your fitness level, however, be sure you wear appropriate shoes and dress for the weather conditions. The West Rim is also home to the world famous Skywalk, the glass and steel platform that extends over the edge of the Canyon. You'll get to look through a transparent floor to the bottom of the Canyon 4000 feet below you for one of the most spectacular views imaginable. You can also get a professional photo of your experience as a memento of the exhilarating experience.

Helicopter flights are available at the West Rim as well. Look for the flight that comes with a descent to the Canyon floor and that lands beside the Colorado River. You can upgrade this tour to include a float along the scenic river.

Book Early!

It will be busy at the Canyon over Spring Break so buy your tour early so it isn't sold out. You should book at least two weeks prior to the day that you want to fly to avoid any disappointment. Book online with a credit card because that's where the best deals are found and you will avoid missing out on tickets.

Get Ready For Spring Break Fun

Now you have some great ideas on how to have an exciting fun-filled Spring Break getaway. If you want to tour the scenic South Rim, be sure to upgrade to include the long helicopter flight that goes over the North Rim and eastern edge of the park. If you want to go to the West Rim instead, then you don't want to miss the helicopter ride to the Canyon floor. No matter what tour you take and upgrades you include, your day will be filled with beautiful sights and plenty of adventure when you tour America's most famous natural landmark.
