Want to Have Guaranteed Snow at Christmas in Europe?
In Europe the rule of thumb for snow at Christmas is: The higher up the mountains you are in the Alps or the further North you are in Scandinavia the more likely you are to experience a White Christmas holiday. The chances that you will be 'drowning' in snow in the European Alps are much more likely then that you will experience a 'green' Christmas. Most of the alpine villages at higher altitude employ snow making equipment. They can not give an iron clad guarantee that there will be snow in front of your hotel, but they guarantee you snow on the surrounding mountains. While you can never predict if Mother Nature isn't going to throw a last minute spanner into the works, the following suggested destinations have a very high chance of having snow in the villages and valleys itself during Christmas.

Bad Hofgastein is a perfect choice for families, skiers and non-skiers alike. Obergurgl/Hochgurgl and Lech/Zuuers and St. Anton am Arlberg are ideal for skiers but do not offer very many options to the non-skier. They are a paradise for free-riders and expert skiers, have lighted slopes to enable night skiing and a great quantity of ungroomed terrain with challenging power trails.

This option is really only suitable for skiers as these resorts cater exclusively for skiers and boarders and don't offer much for non-skiers. The Stubai Glacier is Austria's largest ski resort and Slden, Hintertux, the Mlltal glacier or the Kitzsteinhorn at Kaprun have certainty of snow.
