Exotic Explorations Are Part Of Machu Picchu And Galapagos Combined Tours

By Janine Hughes

For most, the chance to explore both Peru and Ecuador on the same vacation results in many questions. These always involve itinerary and methods of transportation. Some of these travel issues depend on the level of exertion expected for the mountainous regions and high altitudes in Peru. Other concerns include how to see and experience the most of the islands.

There are many top notch machu picchu and galapagos combined tours which give you the chance to explore these two very exotic and popular locations on the same vacation. Which you choose will depend on price, length of time available and travel order. Experienced travelers who have combined these two often recommend visiting Machu Picchu first, and then heading to the Galapagos last. The trip to reach the heights of Peru can be arduous, as the higher elevations can cause acclimation difficulties for awhile, so even hardy and healthy fitness buffs tend to go their first and relax on the islands next.

The Peruvian highlands can be reached by airplane or land transport. Most arrive in Lima using one of the major airlines. Then, a tour company guide can greet them before they climb on board a bus for their scheduled travels. Hotel accommodations are included, as are meals, lectures and descriptions of the culture and geography along the way. For the physically fit, hiking the Inca Trail is another way to see the magnificent sights on the way to the famous ruins. It is also possible to take a train tour to these high spots in the Andes. Other short excursions that might be fit into the schedule is a visit to the highest in the world, Lake Titicaca, or the Amazon. Lima has many city sights and sounds to enjoy as a base camp.

Arriving in Quito, Ecuador is a popular way to arrange a departure for the Galapagos Islands. This is the capitol city of this small country, and the gateway to many additional day trips. Depending upon the time available, you might consider visiting the Amazon rain forest, the snow topped Andes or some famous colonial cities. These can be exciting additions to visit, saving a cruise to the Galapagos for the last place of honor in your itinerary.

When Charles Darwin was inspired to create his theory of evolution, he did so at the Galapagos islands. A highlight of the National Park organization, naturalists guide visitors through them annually on structured walks. Park entry is closely limited to a few hours daily. Set trails must be followed, with no stepping away allowed. The future of all plant and animal life in the Tortoise Reserve in particular is a highly protected priority.

It is exciting to learn that you can stay overnight while visiting the system of islands that make up Galapagos. Both luxury tents and eco-lodging are available at reasonable prices. Savvy tourists do recommend booking a cruise around the coastline, with comfortable accommodations and delicious meals at all times.

Literally hundreds of tour companies can arrange combination tours for you. Your goals before booking will be to explore pricing, know your vacation length and consider what you want to see and how best to do so.

Your tour guide will be an essential part of a combined trip if you do not speak Spanish. Guides into other regions may speak other native dialects, but they are generally very knowledgeable about their specific region. For the first time visitor, the combined tours are wonderful simply due to these well versed tour leaders, so going it alone is not the best advice.
